Ruby cufflinks are most functional and decorative to complete a gentleman's style. Please watch the video on how to put them on. They are quite easy to wear. You can find more on Ruby characteristics below.

History

Red is the colour of love, it radiates warmth and a strong sense of vitality. Red is the colour of the ruby, the king of the gemstones. For thousands of years, the ruby has been considered one of the most valuable gemstones on earth. It has everything a precious stone should have: magnificent colour, excellent hardness and outstanding brilliance. In addition to that, it is an extremely rare gemstone, especially in its finer qualities.

Ruby shows asterism, a six-rayed star that shimmers over the surface of the stone when it is moved. Ruby is red corundum; all other color varieties of corundum are being referred to as sapphire. Corundum is the second hardest substance on the Mohs scale, with a rating of nine. Diamond for example tops that scale with ten.

Origin

The main deposits are in Thailand, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. Rubies found in Thailand (Chanthaburi district) often have a brown or violet tint. However the Thai ruby production is unfortunately is declining. In Sri Lanka the deposits are located in the southwest of the island in the Ratnapura district. Rubies from that deposit are usually light red to raspberry red. Rubies found in the northwest of Tanzania on the upper Umba River are violet to brown red.

Other deposits of importance are found in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Kenya, Madagascar and Vietnam. Less important deposits are found in Australia, Brazil, India, Malawi, Nepal, Pakistan, The United States and Zimbabwe.

How to preserve the beauty of a DDincs Cufflink over time?

DDincs Cufflinks are a perfect blend of charm, originality and stringent technical rigour. From the selection of gemstones and other materials to a special craftsmanship touch, a series of precise, harmonious gestures make every cufflink unique. They are made to wear every day and on every occasion. This is why they need no extraordinary maintenance, especially if they are delicately handled and cleaned.
Nonetheless, being precious objects, they deserve some simple, caring actions so that their beauty and splendour can be preserved over time.

  • Keep the cufflinks away from sharp, hard objects, harsh chemicals (perfumes, hairspray, chlorine), sunlight and extreme temperature. Keep them from falling onto hard surfaces. All of this can affect silver and gold and appearance of gems.
  • Do not wear the cufflinks when in the swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna/steam room or while bathing or showering. Chlorine, detergents, oils & perfumes can all cause tarnishing & damage.
  • You can clean the cufflinks and remove tarnish with a soft cloth.
  • Thoroughly dry the cufflinks after exposure to water.

Silver

Our silver is a beautiful lustrous metal, used in making of finest contemporary jewellery. It does tarnish unfortunately.
Regular cleaning and smooth polishing will restore the original look of silver.

How to match a cufflink to your shirt (and tie)?

A few basics tips that will help you refine your approach to picking out some winning shirt, tie and cufflink combinations.

Combination 1: Solid-on-Solid
Let's touch on a classic combo: the solid shirt, tie and cufflink combo:

  • Use contrasting colour combinations.
If you're wearing a foundation shirt like a solid white, light blue or pink, you can pretty much wear any colour cufflink you like. It's a great way to make your outfit pop with a bit more colour.
  • Use analogous colour combinations.
Wearing a solid light blue shirt? Try it with a solid dark blue cufflink like the blue Sapphire or Lapiz Lazuli. Pink shirt? Go with a red, maroon or purple cufflink like Ruby or Amethyst. Just keep it in the family (colour wise). This is called 'minimalistic pairing' that symbolizes a certain level of sartorial sophistication.

Avoid wearing a light solid shirt with a light solid colour cufflink. Furthermore, never wear a tie that is the same exact colour as your shirt.

Combination 2: Solid-on-Pattern
Going with a solid-on-pattern requires a bit more thought than just matching solids. In fact, a solid colour cufflink on a patterned shirt is one of the easiest ways to work patterns into your outfit. The simple but key tip to pulling this off: match the colour of your cufflink to the colour family of one or more of the colours in your shirt pattern.

Above all, remember this: learn these as simple guidelines to form your own stylistic expression. Play around with different combinations and above all else, don't be afraid to discover and express something unique!

As Oscar Wilde once said, "You have to be yourself, everyone else is taken."
