History

The Sapphire symbolises loyalty and at the same time gives expression to people's love and longing. The specialist recognises Ceylon sapphires by the luminosity ot their light to mid-blue colours. The oldest sapphire finds are in Ceylon, or Sri Lanka as its is known today, where people were digging for gemstones in ancient times.

When cutting a sapphire the cutter has to muster all his skill, these gemstones are not only hard but depending on the angle from which you look have different intensities of colour.

How to preserve the beauty of a DDincs Cufflink over time?

DDincs Cufflinks are a perfect blend of charm, originality and stringent technical rigour. From the selection of gemstones and other materials to a special craftsmanship touch, a series of precise, harmonious gestures make every cufflink unique. They are made to wear every day and on every occasion. This is why they need no extraordinary maintenance, especially if they are delicately handled and cleaned.
Nonetheless, being precious objects, they deserve some simple, caring actions so that their beauty and splendour can be preserved over time.

  • Keep the cufflinks away from sharp, hard objects, harsh chemicals (perfumes, hairspray, chlorine), sunlight and extreme temperature. Keep them from falling onto hard surfaces. All of this can affect silver and gold and appearance of gems.
  • Do not wear the cufflinks when in the swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna/steam room or while bathing or showering. Chlorine, detergents, oils & perfumes can all cause tarnishing & damage.
  • You can clean the cufflinks and remove tarnish with a soft cloth.
  • Thoroughly dry the cufflinks after exposure to water.

Silver

Our silver is a beautiful lustrous metal, used in making of finest contemporary jewellery. It does tarnish unfortunately.
Regular cleaning and smooth polishing will restore the original look of silver.

How to match a cufflink to your shirt (and tie)?

A few basics tips that will help you refine your approach to picking out some winning shirt, tie and cufflink combinations.

Combination 1: Solid-on-Solid
Let's touch on a classic combo: the solid shirt, tie and cufflink combo:

  • Use contrasting colour combinations.
If you're wearing a foundation shirt like a solid white, light blue or pink, you can pretty much wear any colour cufflink you like. It's a great way to make your outfit pop with a bit more colour.
  • Use analogous colour combinations.
Wearing a solid light blue shirt? Try it with a solid dark blue cufflink like the blue Sapphire or Lapiz Lazuli. Pink shirt? Go with a red, maroon or purple cufflink like Ruby or Amethyst. Just keep it in the family (colour wise). This is called 'minimalistic pairing' that symbolizes a certain level of sartorial sophistication.

Avoid wearing a light solid shirt with a light solid colour cufflink. Furthermore, never wear a tie that is the same exact colour as your shirt.

Combination 2: Solid-on-Pattern
Going with a solid-on-pattern requires a bit more thought than just matching solids. In fact, a solid colour cufflink on a patterned shirt is one of the easiest ways to work patterns into your outfit. The simple but key tip to pulling this off: match the colour of your cufflink to the colour family of one or more of the colours in your shirt pattern.

Above all, remember this: learn these as simple guidelines to form your own stylistic expression. Play around with different combinations and above all else, don't be afraid to discover and express something unique!

As Oscar Wilde once said, "You have to be yourself, everyone else is taken."
